If you’re after a tasty non-dairy, vegan protein powder that doesn’t bloat or taste like soil, then this may just be the protein powder for you. I personally don’t tolerate a lot of dairy very well, and after trying a few different vegan protein powders on the market, this one seems to stand head and shoulders above the rest. It mixes well, has a subtle but sweet vanilla taste, and contains lots of healthy goodies that allow the body to digest it much easier than other vegan powders.
Most vegan protein powders will often contain a basic blend of hemp, rice or pea protein, but if these are not fermented, sprouted or combined with digestive enzymes, then they can be very difficult for some to digest. You may experience bloating, constipation or diarrhea as a result, which you really don’t want after (or before!) a good workout.
Organic Super Protein contains a complete protein blend of pea, rice, hemp, quinoa, amaranth, and millet – all amazingly nutritious grains that are easily digested, due to them being fermented/sprouted to make their nutrients more accessible to the body. It also contains organic coconut oil extract for an extra energy boost, essential healthy fats from chia seed, flax seed, and sacha inchi and also an array of useful plant-based enzymes to help digest the proteins. This is a healthy balance of ingredients with no inflammatory soy, dairy, gluten, GMOs or other strange and unpronounceable additives in sight. Apart from that is, something called ‘Lo Han Berry Extract’ – a non-calorie natural sweetener otherwise know as monk fruit. Similar to stevia, this provides it with its subtle sweetness without the added sugar and calorie hit.
You get a decent 18g of protein per serving (2 scoops), which provides 20 servings. Not a huge amount given the hefty price tag, so I did find myself hoarding the powder for my more intense CrossFit workouts. I normally blend a simple smoothie using half a banana, a handful of berries and 400mls of nut milk, and find it blends perfectly smoothly into any of the concoctions I’ve made so far. The vanilla flavour compliments most smoothie recipes without being overpowering, and even mixes well with water.
If you’re fed up of vile vegan protein powders and just can’t tolerate whey, I really recommend giving this one a shot if you have the budget.
